As China is already the world's largest heavy-duty tyre market and the third largest producer of tyres, it is now witnessing a robustly growing demand for high-quality carbon black. Such a prospect results in foreign invested carbon black companies quickening their pace of investment in China.

By February 2005, Cabot Corporation of the US had become the largest foreign invested carbon black manufacturer in China with an annual production capacity of about 130,000 tons, followed by Taiwan's Synthetic Tyre Company (120,000 tons per year) and Germany's Degussa Company Limited.
